Indie folk/rock band Lord Huron is back, and 50�Ȼ���Ƶ is apparently excited. The band’s show this weekend at the Pageant is sold out. Lord Huron is promoting its latest album, “Vide Noir,” which pushes the band in new directions. The album is the follow-up to 2015’s “Strange Trails.” By Kevin C. Johnson

The contemporary-music Alarm Will Sound performs “Mind Out of Matter,” by Scott Johnson. A 74-minute, eight-movement suite, it unites Johnson’s mix of classical and pop influences and transcribes recorded speech into music. The speech is by philosopher-author-cognitive scientist Daniel C. Dennett, who combines humor and warmth with what Alarm Will Sound calls “Dennett’s central claim: Just as living organisms evolve in the physical environment, ideas and traditions compete within ecosystems made up of human minds and cultures. The second annual daylong celebration of literature in the Central West End features more than 40 authors. It’s a good mix of national and local, fiction and nonfiction, serious and escapist. You can hear Michael Isikoff talk about Russia and President Donald Trump or grab a glass of wine and enjoy novelist Gary Shteyngart’s reading from “Lake Success.” The only problem may be choosing between panels going on at the same time. In 1857, the 50�Ȼ���Ƶ Police Department was the first to take photos of criminal suspects and display them at the police station in a rogues’ gallery. The Missouri Historical Society Press published the images in an ebook last year, and now, 150 replicas of the original portraits are on display again in the history museum’s atrium. Some are identified, and some are not; some have information describing the faces as “thief and pickpocket from N.Y. carpenter” and “whore house pimp.” The exhibition reveals the human stories behind the faces. By Valerie Schremp Hahn

Maplewood artist Margaret Keller created a 105-foot-long representation of the Missouri River out of a silver-colored decal, which will be on display outside the Gateway Arch through Dec. 21. The opening of the work, called “Riverbend,” will include live music by the Sappington Creek Bluegrass band and a chance to create origami canoes to place on the artwork. “Riverbend” is the public works project of Critical Mass for the Visual Arts, a local nonprofit.
